Sindhi Nationalist Organizations Commemorate the 122nd Birth Anniversary of Saeen G.M. Syed in Sann and Worldwide

The 122nd birth anniversary of Saeen Ghulam Murtaza Syed (G.M. Syed), renowned Sindhi nationalist leader, political philosopher, and intellectual, was observed with great reverence and enthusiasm in Sann, Jamshoro District, on 17 January 2026, as well as across Sindh and by Sindhi communities worldwide throughout the month of January.

Saeen G.M. Syed, born on 17 January 1904 in Sann, is remembered as the ideological architect of modern Sindhi nationalism. His political thought, literary contributions, and lifelong struggle for the rights, identity, and dignity of the Sindhi nation continue to inspire political movements and intellectual discourse.

Sann, the birthplace of Saeen G.M. Syed, remained the center of major commemorative activities, where thousands of activists, political workers, scholars, and citizens gathered to pay homage.

Floral wreaths were laid at the mausoleum of Saeen G.M. Syed, followed by prayers, speeches, and recitations highlighting his ideology, political struggle, and intellectual legacy.

The anniversary was collectively commemorated by a wide spectrum of Sindhi nationalist and political organizations, including Sindh United Part, Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Jeay Sindh Tehreek (JST), Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM). Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM), Sindhian National Congress (SNC), Voice of Missing Persons of Sindh (VMPS), Sindh Sabha and other organizations.

In addition to the above, several other Sindhi nationalists, political, cultural, and civil society organizations organized or participated in parallel commemorative programs, rallies, seminars, and public gatherings in and around Sann.

Each organization paid tribute to Saeen G.M. Syed in accordance with its own organizational tradition, reflecting the pluralism and ideological diversity within the Sindhi nationalist movement, while remaining united in honoring his historic role and vision.

Leaders and representatives of the participating organizations addressed the gatherings and emphasized that Saeen G.M. Syed was not only a political leader but also a thinker, historian, and ideologue whose writings shaped Sindhi political consciousness.

Speakers highlighted:

  • The struggle for national, political, and cultural rights
  • The importance of peaceful political resistance
  • Preservation of Sindhi language, history, and identity
  • Awareness regarding constitutional rights and human dignity

Representatives of VMPS also highlighted the issue of missing persons, linking it to Saeen G.M. Syed’s broader philosophy of justice and human rights.

Alongside the events in Sann, the anniversary was observed internationally by Sindhi diaspora organizations and rights groups in the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Saudi Arabia, UAE and other countries. Seminars, conferences, and cultural programs were organized to discuss Saeen G.M. Syed’s political philosophy and its relevance in the contemporary global context.

The 122nd birth anniversary of Saeen G. M Syed was observed as a historic and unifying occasion by Sindhi nationalist organizations and Sindhi communities across the world. The large participation in Sann on 17 January 2026 reaffirmed that Saeen G.M. Syed remains a central figure in Sindhi political thought and national consciousness.

Participants pledged to continue promoting his ideology through peaceful struggle, political awareness, cultural preservation, and intellectual engagement, ensuring that his legacy remains alive for future generations.
